Continuing Professional Development

Your Guide to CPD

Learning is an ongoing process. It is something which we all do over the years which makes a massive difference to the way that we look at the world. How we interact with everybody and the way we behave is tied to how much learning we do.

So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that CPD, which stands for continuing professional development, is something which is growing in popularity over the lockdown period and especially after.

What is CPD?

CPD stands for continuing professional development, which refers to the

ability of an individual to continue to learn about the deeper skill sets which can be gained in their respective vocations. CPD refers to the process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge and experience that employees gain both formally and informally as they carry out additional activities, which is upon and beyond their basic training activities. Staff are expected to undertake CPD by their employers, in fact most professions demand that CPD activities are completed every year.

Specifically, CPD refers to the ability of an individual to continue to grow and develop, advancing their skill set in order to be more valuable to an employer or within a particular vocation.

How Does CPD Work?

AISR now offers 100% online CPD courses at various levels. These CPD courses are written in such a way, that a candidate will develop and enhance their understanding of the subject matter through our structured approach and the practical applications embedded within the course. Typically, user engagement is required, and encouraged via the content provided. Commonly, this is done via the use of videos and online content available at AISR's CPD Virtual Academy. Webinars can be arranged with an instructor, to explain a particular topic, and talk through that particular lesson with the attendees.

Why CPD?

One of the biggest questions that people tend to ask is “why bother with CPD?”

It’s important to continue to grow and develop, especially during challenging periods like this. Your values to your employer is defined by your ability to carry out your day-to-day tasks, your overall skill set, and your knowledge within your field. Understandably, employers want those workers who are committed to continuous growth and development.

In conclusion, those who can continuously demonstrate that they are prepared to commit to rigorous training will be the ones who succeed, and CPD is the best way to do this. Growing and progressing as a person is always important, and as people are typically on furlough at this moment, there has never been a better period to sit down and enhance your vocational knowledge and skill set or to learn a new set of skills.

You will continue to learn new things, advance as an individual, and return to work as a much more confident, much more proficient member of the team. This will see you in good stead during a period of uncertainty where businesses attempt to return to normal.
